Displace anger; sometimes you have to look closer

There have been some people here in South Carolina that had said that Governor Mark Sanford is a racist because he refused to take the Stimulus money. Well, as usual, I see things different. I don’t think the Governor decision not to use the Stimulus money was a racist decision. In order for it to be a racist you have to single out a certain minority group. But since there are just as many whites as well as minorities out of work, you can’t say that the Governor’s decision was a racist decision. Although, I do not believe it was a racist decision, I do believe it was a reckless one.

Right now, residence all over the State as well as the Country are angry that AIG are giving out all these huge bonuses and these angry residence want someone to either lose their jobs or go to jail. Well, they have that right to feel that way. But! Let us keep our anger closer to home. We have three Republicans running this State right now, Governor Mark Sanford, Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Jim DeMint.

Now, say that South Carolina is AIG and Sanford, Graham and DeMint are the Executives. These three Executives have run their company (South Carolina) into the ground. All of them are millionaires, and all of them are collecting a paycheck. Also, all of them have their own agendas and their company (South Carolina) is not on the agenda.

For example, did you know that Senator Graham is positioning himself as a leader in the U.S. Senate behind his buddy Senator John McCain? Have you notice, when Senator McCain was running for President and when you saw Senator McCain in interviews; who was standing right behind him every single time? You guess right, Senator Graham. During all that time Senator Graham was up for re-election. Do you remember voting for him or against him? Most people did not know he was re-elected.

Then you have Senator DeMint, quiet as it is kept, is positioning himself to run in the 2012 Presidential race; but he had one problem. He was not well known nationally. So how can a U.S. Senator from South Carolina, who is not well known nationally, get noticed? Vote against the Stimulus Package and go on all the National Sunday Talk shows and tell the world why you voted against it. Instant fame….

Now, Governor Sanford is in his last year as Governor, because of term limits. You got to love term limits. He also, quiet as it is kept, is positioning himself for the 2012 Presidential race. But he had the same problem as Senator DeMint. He was not well known nationally.

So, what does a Governor from South Carolina do to get known? Vote against the Stimulus Package, and then write a letter to the President asking him can he use part of the money to pay down the education debt. Not once, but twice asking the President the same question in a letter even after the President had denied his first request letter to use that money to pay down education debt. Instant fame….

These three AIG Executives (Graham, DeMint and Sanford) have their own agendas while their company (South Carolina) which they were elected and are being paid to take care of had failed us. But I don’t see the angry residents of this State directing their anger and picketing outside these three individuals’ homes demanding for their jobs or demanding they go to jail or wonder why they are not being questioned about their performances.

But in turn, you worry about people in New York getting huge bonus when you need to take a closer look at the people close to home who were elected to take care you. Most of you never thought about Wall Street or cared what they do, because you did not have a clue of the nature of Wall Street. So the anger within you should be shared by your lack of interest for not looking at the big picture, so you should get thirty percent of the blame. But the other seventy percent of blame had misled you.

This is just another Republican distraction from the real issue. The distraction is; make a big issue about AIG and Wall Street while the Governor and Senators are making a name for themselves right in your face and under your nose, capitalism at its best. So I ask you South Carolina, why should you worry about these Republicans here if they are not worried about you? You have the power to vote them into office, so why don’t you use your power to vote them out?

Gays in the Military, it is not the real issue

I have served in the Military for 23 years, from 1984 to 2007. I have served alongside gay men and woman and one of my best Commanders was gay. They have courage, respect, and good character all the things you want a soldier to have. So because they are gay, it is a problem for them to serve openly. Why do they have to lie in order to serve their Country? Is it because straight men are scared of gay men? Or is it because straight men are insecure about their own sexuality?

Gays that are serving in the military, is not the real issue? Here is the real issue. Gays serving in the military is just a political distraction from the real issue that plagues the military and has been going on for years. Let me paint a picture for you, on the left side, you have all the people in an out of the military, that says I don’t want a gay person in the fox hole with me, or gays will disrupt the morale and unity of the military.

But on the right side, you have a straight military man, this straight military man, rapes a straight military woman, this straight military woman goes to a straight military man who is an Officer and files a complaint. You know what that straight military man who is an Officer said to the straight military woman who was raped; if you want to stay in the military, keep your mouth shut. So, that straight military man who is an Officer does not file the report. That straight military man who raped that straight military woman is free to rape or kill your mother, sister, daughter, aunt or your niece.

So I ask you, who do you fear now, the gay individual in the foxhole who wants to serve their country or the straight man that is raping and killing your daughter? So what is the real issue, gays serving in the military or is it the straight man that is a sexual predator? So Mr. Homophobic, while you are spending your time, trying to figure out, who is the Gay one in your Unit, you are allowing a sick straight sexual predator roam around in your neighborhood.

Stop complaining and do your part

For the last several years, I have heard people complaining about things in their neighborhood. There are lots of things that they complain about, but here are the two major things; schools and the crime rate. Let me break this down to you why these things are not working.

Schools: The complaints I have heard in the last several months are that the schools are in bad conditions and the teachers are not doing their jobs. So the people of these communities say that the local and Federal Governments are not doing anything to help. Well here is what I have to say to those people who are doing the complaining; when was the last time you spoke to your child or children teachers and ask them how you can help them to make their jobs a lot easier? Most of you give the teacher a hard time when they are trying to do their job teaching your kids. What have you done to help out these schools that you are complaining about?

When was the last time you coordinated a fund raiser for the school? All this time that you are complaining, you could have coordinated a bake sale, or coordinated a team of volunteers to help paint the schools or cut the grass or fix things that needed to be fixed. But no, it is easier for you to complain, and talk bad about your local Government. So if you are not doing anything to solve this situation, then why should the Government solve it for you? If you want the Government to do their part, do your part first.

Crime Rate: This is the other thing that you have complained about. People are selling drugs on your corner, there is a crack house on your street and you see people coming and going at all times of the night and people are getting shot and killed on your street. You call the police and complain every time, but when the police come to your house to ask you questions about the things going on in your neighborhood, you say that you have don’t want to get involved or you don’t know anything, or you are not a snitch.

How can the police do their jobs if you are not willing to do your part? But you want them to help you? You don’t want to be a witness or testify, but you are very voice full when it comes to talking bad about the police. Here is a question for you; when was the last time you started a neighborhood watch. I bet you don’t know who your neighbors are. But when someone in your family gets killed or raped then you want everybody to help you. Then you want the world to come to your rescue. Remember, this is your community. Stop complaining and get involved and take your community back. Because if your community is not that important enough for you to get involved, or to snitch, then why should the Police or Local/Federal Government help you?

Question and verify everything

We are in the year 2009, and people are still listening to the BS that other people tell them. I cannot understand why people in their 30s, 40s and older are still getting their information wrong. We are in the information age, so why are people still getting their information by word of mouth and not verifying what they have heard.

Why do people rely on that one friend who they know only speaks the half truth or that one friend that claims they know everything about politics but get their information from other people who don’t know jack? But people today still accept it as the truth.

Come on people, all because you hear all this information passed around, questioned it, and then verify. You have the internet, libraries, CNN any and everything you can think of is online or in a book. This reminds me of the old saying “if you don’t want a black person to learn anything, put it in a book”. I am starting to believe that. I have spoken to many people of color, and some of the questions they ask me are things they could look up for themselves. Here is a question that I asked a woman here in Columbia South Carolina, she is in her 40s and lived in South Carolina all her life. The question that I asked her was; who is the Governor of South Carolina? I kid you not, this was her answer; Senator Graham.

It is funny to me, that people can learn all the new cell phones models and ring tones that come out, or perfumes, cars, or their favorite artist, but when it comes to politics, they are clueless or they stay away from it because they say politics is a white man’s thing or it is too confusing. Now, this is a woman who has been here all her life. The sad thing is that she is not the only one who has gotten that answer wrong. But this woman could tell me where the club was, but could not tell me where the State House was. She knew all the gossip around town and everything about Chris Brown and Rihanna situation, but she could not tell me what the First Amendment was. This is a registered voter, so it makes me think, what the hell she was doing while she was in the voting booth.

Are we living in a different world? Or do we have our priorities in the wrong order. Think about this; for those who have kids, when your kids want to go out somewhere, what do you do? You asked them, where are you going? Who are you going with? When someone comes to you and want to borrow some money; you ask them; why you need this money? But when it comes to politics, you never question what you hear. You take what you hear or see on T.V. as gospel since everyone is talking about it.

So when you complaining about these backward laws or your tax bill and cable bill are too high. Think about all that time you spent reading about the latest entertainment gossip or spending your time downloading ring tones. While you are doing that, asked yourself this; do these things make my life or the life of my family or my community better?

If you open your eyes, your ears and your mind, then you will not be led down that blind road if ignorance. If something does not make sense to you, question it. If there is something you don’t know, research it. If you have kids and you are not computer savvy, ask your kids the question and then have them research it for you. This will make you and your kids a little smarter. Treat your Politics as if your life depends on it, because it does..

Letter to my Minority Republican friends

To my Minority Republican friends,

The Republican Party does not want you; they do not care about you. History has proven this over and over again. It just has been proven once more.

Michael Steele, the Former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, was elected as the Republican National Chairman as you well know, to a mostly all white Party, only after and African American man was elected to the President of the United States. I am pointing this fact out, in case you have not noticed it. To be in charge of the Republican Party, you call the shots, you come up with the plans to make the changes within your Party and your Party implements those changes, but forgive me, I’m sure you knew this.

As a Republican, you and Michael Steele, think that you are one of them, but you’re not. You and Michael Steele will never be true Republicans. Look at the history of the Party my friend. Take a look at all of the Republican Conferences and see for yourself. I’m sure you were there, but then again, you may not have been, sorry for assuming. But if you were there, how many people there look like you?

My friend, Michael Steele is nothing more than just a brown face for your Party. He does not speak for you or them. This is pure racism at its best, WAKE UP!! Your Party put a Black man in charge, but his thoughts, his words are not his own. Look what happen when he went out on his own and spoke against Rush Limbaugh. He ended up apologizing to him. Can you tell me why? I’m confused. I thought he was the leader.

Also, what is the deal with the Governor of Louisiana, you know, Piyush “Bobby” Jindal, the Indian American who gave a speech after President Obama’s address to Congress. It sucked, at least that is pretty much what I am hearing from your Party. They are saying things like he was out of line and that some of the information he mention was not accurately factual. Maybe the reason why his speech had sucked is because he did not say what they wanted him to say. Is this true my friend? After his speech, he disappeared. His staff said he went to Disney Land with his family, but no one seems to remember him being there. It seems like your Party shut him down. Do you see a trend here? I do..

My friend, the other night Governor Jindal showed up on the Larry King Show, and he mentioned that he was not that great at given speeches, like President Obama. My friend, can you answer this question. If he is not that great at giving speeches, then why give a speech? Especially giving one after a man that gives great speeches? I’m sure there was some non-minority Republicans who could have given that speech. To me, that is like going to a concert and the Head Liner is opening up for the Opening Act. Can you see where I am going with this? You are being set up my friend.

In closing, your Party is hiding behind their racism. A Black man was elected as the President of the United States and your Party put two brown faces in the lime light. Your Party is doing everything to fight this President? In the last eight years, they did not put up any fights. Just like in the last eight years, they did not put up any brown faces. Watch your back..

Love
Your Democrat friend..
